Food Truck Success


Starting a Food Truck is easy, but having a successful food truck is the goal.

I’ve run my food truck business for almost 6 years now, and that’s considered a veteran in the mobile food industry.  The mobile food truck business is appealing due to it’s low start up costs, but it does have it’s own challenges.  Different from a restaurant, the success of your food truck isn’t hinged to your location selection. This is what makes the mobile business very appealing, avoiding the high fixed costs of leasing a building space along with constant labor costs of staff.
In my experience the two biggest reasons for foodtruck failure is due to;
1) Lack of planning
2) Cost Management
Unlike a restaurant with a fixed location to drive traffic, you need to consistently find the business.   Planning your schedule and staying busy consistently is vital to your success.  Determining a solid marketing business plan and sticking to it will help this hurdle.  Dedicate at least 1 hour per day to business development and marketing in order to keep your schedule full.
Remember, it’s not about what you make but what you keep. Your food truck can make money two ways;
1) Increase Sales (Business Development Planning)
2) Reduce Costs (Consistent Cost Management)

Cost efficient menu offering and maintaining low operating costs are vital.

In addition, managing all costs (food, waste, labor, fees, maintenance) effectively will keep your food truck out of a crunch.
Do your research and learn from experienced food trucks in the industry.
